What is ANGEL MOSS TM ?
|
Angel Moss TM is 100% Pure, Natural Sphagnum Moss from New Zealand.
New Zealand - A land of forests, mountains, rivers and lakes, is an island country in the South Pacific where nature rules, where 'clean and green' is the image and reality
Angel Moss TM commonly known as Sphagnum Moss is grown on the West Coast of New Zealand - a country of great contrasts, abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery including rivers, lakes, mountains and forests. The high rainfall (about 170” a year) on the West Coast of the South Island provides the perfect growing environment for Angel Moss TM to thrive and regenerate itself every four to five years.
From the natural swamps on the West Coast of New Zealand, Angel Moss TM is carefully harvested by hand, dried and transformed into soil conditioners, orchid growing medium and liners for hanging baskets, patio planters, container gardens.
New Zealand’s Sphagnum Moss has, for many years, been recognized in Japan as the world’s premium orchid growing medium.
WATER HOLDING PROPERTIES
Constructed like a big sponge, Angel Moss TM absorbs water and freely releases it to plants. Angel Moss TM can hold up to 20 times its own weight in water which means 1lb of dry Angel Moss TM can hold up to 2 gallons of water. Angel Moss TM has a high exchange capacity which is to say that it has the ability to transfer fluids and nutrients extremely well. |

 |
ANTISEPTIC PROPERTIES
The acidity of Angel Moss TM inhibits most bacterial growth. It is regarded as being a sterile medium that is naturally Aseptic which means it contains no bacteria, viruses or other micro-organisms. It contains a natural antibiotic called ‘Tropolene’ which prevents the growth of micro-organisms.
Due to its unique absorptive properties, Angel Moss TM reduces leaching or runoff of nutrients present in or added to the soil, releasing them over time.
Benefits of Angel Moss TM
HALF THE WATERING
It is widely acknowledged that due to its moisture-holding properties Angel Moss TM provides a sympathetic base for lining hanging baskets. Every part of Angel Moss TM is permeated with minute tubes and spaces resulting in a system of delicate capillary cells, having the effect of a very fine sponge. The cells readily absorb water and retain it to a capacity of up to 20 times its dry weight.
This means that 1lb of dry Angel Moss TM can hold up to 2 gallons of water. And since Angel Moss TM liners absorb so much water, retain that water and transfer that water so well, your plants will always be maintained in top condition.
Angel Moss TM really is ‘Nature’s Sponge’
Over recent years easy to use, preformed liners made of coco-fibre have been introduced and widely marketed as an alternative to moss. However independent and practical usage has highlighted significant differences in the watering requirements of hanging baskets lined in coco-fibre when compared to those lined with Angel Moss TM.
Acknowledged experts/leaders in hanging baskets in NZ and the USA have reported when trialling preformed Angel Moss TM liners that Angel Moss TM requires significantly less watering than coco-fibre.
"Having used coco-fiber for many years I find that the Angel Moss TM Liners hold significantly more water, and I have had to cut back the number of days I need to water by half." Peg Marsden, Hamilton, New Zealand |

INDEPENDENT TRIALS HIGHLIGHT |
|
Recent independent trials by leading horticulturalist, author, and media personality - Bill Ward, and hanging basket expert - Peg Marsden, highlight that Angel Moss TM Liners require only half the watering when compared to Coco-fibre Liners.
These Independant trials compare watering requirements & overall “Plant Health” and vigor over a 6 month period. 8 different trials were carried out over this period, and from the below pictures you can see the amazing difference in plant health. Baskets were planted with the same plants, were in the same environment, watered the same and fertilized the same.

ANGEL MOSS TM LINERS GIVE BETTER ‘PLANT HEALTH’
|
|
Independent trials carried out over 6 months by New Zealand leading horticulturist, author and gardening personality, Bill Ward, confirmed that plant health is significantly superior in baskets lined with ANGEL MOSS Liners. See above trial!
|
|
From these trials it was concluded that the Angel Moss TM (Sphagnum Moss) has the ability to hold the water and also to hold the nutrients in the soil for a greater length of time than the Coco-fibre, plastic pots or traditional woodland moss. This meant that the health of the plants in the Angel Moss was far better and lasted longer than the others.
|
|
It was clearly evident that plants in Angel Moss TM lined baskets enjoyed superior health and longevity when compared to those that had been watered twice as much in baskets lined with coco-fibre.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
|
|
All Angel Moss Liners are made from Environmentally Friendly Moss. Our FARMED Moss Does Not Destroy Wild Insects & Bird Life.
Green Woodland Moss has been scoured and stripped from vast areas of forest all over the world. This destroys the habitat for many insects and in turn directly reduces wild bird populations. Studies show Woodland Moss regeneration can take 20 years or more and many species of native moss and lichens have never fully recovered.
Unlike Woodland Moss, Angel Moss TM is “farmed” based on a sustainable management program approved by New Zealand’s Department of Conservation. This plan ensures the regeneration of the Angel Moss TM or Sphagnum Moss, while protecting the wildlife and the environment.
Harvesters in our New Zealand Swamps use only pitchforks to pick the moss. No heavy machinery is used.

In fact, independent and government reports confirm New Zealand Angel Moss TM or Sphagnum Moss is a sustainable resource, regenerating every 2-4 years and that regular “FARMING” has improved New Zealand Angel Moss TM overall quantity and quality. Harvesting sphagnum moss regularly actually stimulates the environment rather than damaging it.
